ANTIFREEZE: Uses and Benefits

Updated: Apr 14, 2023

Extreme temperatures can damage the engine of your vehicle. This is why using the proper product is a key point to avoid this type of damage.

In this matter, the Engine Coolant or Antifreeze is an important element, but it contains components that prevent corrosion of your vehicle's engine parts.

The vehicle's radiator has a reservoir that stores engine coolant. The coolant flows into the engine block and circulates through the engine block, protecting and preventing your engine from overheating and freezing when the mercury drops below 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius.

While the car is running, a pump sends engine coolant to your engine block. From there, the coolant will return to the car's radiator (also called the heat exchanger) and then back to the pump. When you start your vehicle, the coolant will bypass the radiator, allowing the engine to warm up. As the vehicle warms up, the coolant system valve will allow coolant to flow through the radiator.

Different ingredients can be part of the formula. But in general, they include ethylene or propylene glycol and water. Depending on the type of engine, you need to pay attention to which antifreeze is the best for your vehicle.
